A bit about me

Hi, I'm Steph - I'm half Chinese, half German, and I love doodling, dogs and dumplings.

For as long as I can remember, I have doodled. Whether drawing on paper tablecloths during our family restaurant trips to gorge on dim sum, or relentlessly entering Blue Peter art competitions, I've always loved drawing cartoons of animals and people, usually with expressions that are slightly bonkers.

Drawing is also a very portable hobby - which was handy as I moved around a lot growing up, and have continued to do so in my working life.  Born in London, I've lived in Amsterdam, Alabama (yes, ALABAMA), Hong Kong, Boston and Zurich, but am now back in London - where my home is, of course, filled with doodles, a dog and (often) dumplings.

A love of animals led me to study Psychology and Zoology at Bristol Uni, a gap year doing various animal-related activities in Africa and Asia, and then a post-grad in law with a view to potentially working in life sciences/environmental law.  As it transpired, I ended up qualifying as a Commercial Litigator in the City, which is where I started to use my doodles to describe my cases.  Each case is just a story, after all!

Years later, I am now working as an in-house lawyer (with the sustainability/animal welfare work remaining pro bono), but still finding ways to incorporate drawing into everything I do - creating visual representations of my legal work.

For me, a picture is definitely worth a thousand words, which I've found is a view shared by quite a few other lawyers (despite our reputation for billing by the word!).  The field of legal design has further opened my eyes to how creativity can appropriately and effectively be utilised in the field of law!

I'd love to marry my interests in law and drawing, as well as continue to create fun and lovable characters for children along the way.  Please get in touch if there's something we could explore creating together!

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Steph
